A Chartered Accountant, Herman has been associated with Communicare since 1972 and Chairman of the board since 1989. Having obtained a B.Comm at Stellenbosch University he took articles with an accounting firm, which now forms part of Ernst & Young. He completed his CTA and B.Comm (Hons) through the University of South Africa and in 1972 he joined Communicare (then the Citizens Housing League) as Senior Manager Accounts. In 1980 he joined Haak Fourie & Snyman (Chartered Accountants) and is presently the Managing Partner. In 1984, while remaining involved in this practice, he joined Barno Plastics (Pty) Ltd and is presently Chairman. He serves on the Remuneration, Nominations and Audit & Risk Committees. He is a Rotarian and a keen supporter of sport.

Born in Cape Town on 7 July 1946, he grew up in Stellenbosch where he matriculated at Paul Roos Gymnasium in 1964.
He thereafter studied law at the University of Stellenbosch where he obtained the qualification B.A. LLB and thereafter qualified as an attorney during 1973.
He opened his own practice in Kuils River on 1 April 1975 under the name of Gerhard Schroder Attorneys specialising in conveyancing and property development. During 1979 he was appointed to the panel of Attorneys of Communicare and thereafter joined the Board of Communicare in 1989 and is currently Vice Chairman. He serves on the Nominations and Remuneration Committees.

After obtaining B.Sc, B.Ed and H.D.E. degrees at UCT Clive started his working life as a teacher at Thornton High School before moving to the Department of Biological Sciences at the Cape Technikon where he lectured in Botany and Environmental studies. From 1988 to 2001 he was elected a Councillor for the City of Cape Town and served on the Executive Committee from 1998 to 2002 during which time he was also chairperson of the Planning Committee. On the Cape Metropolitan Council he was appointed Deputy Chair - Transportation and Traffic Committee and Chairman of the board of trustees of the Cape Municipal Pension Fund. He is currently a Unicity Councillor and the Mayoral Committee Member responsible for Utility Services. He re-joined the Board of Communicare in July 2002 after serving initially from 1993 to 1995. He is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee.

Blum is Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Health Group (MHG), one of the largest healthcare administrators in South Africa. A Chartered Accountant by profession, he has many years’ experience in the local and international business arena. He worked for the multinational giant Shell, in Namibia, and spent nearly a decade in Australia working for an innovative properties and financial services company.

Passionate about the environment, he is actively involved in the conservation of Table Mountain, as a trustee of Table Mountain Fund.

He is also a member of the Board of Healthcare Funders.

He is Chairman of the Audit & Risk Committee and a member of the Nominations Committee.

From 1984 to 1994 Paul was an elected member of Parliament for the constituency of Elsies River (House of Representatives) and an elected Leader of that house from 1991 to 1994. From 1997 to 1999 he was a Member of the National Assembly. Prior to that he was Deputy Mayor of Tygerberg City Council. For many years he was a member of the Non-European Unity Movement, the Anti-Card Movement, an associate member of the Teacher's League of South Africa and Honorary Treasurer and member of the Labour Party of South Africa.

He has played key roles in lawn tennis, rugby, table tennis and body building associations as well as involving himself in the leadership of various horticultural societies. He has been a Communicare Board member, representing the MEC of Housing, since 1994. He is a member of the Nominations and Remuneration Committees.

Chris served articles of clerkship with an auditing practice which now forms part of the Ernst & Young stable. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1978 and holds a B Comm Honours degree in Business Data Processing. He spent a short time in the Motor Industry before moving to the Pharmaceutical Industry where he was appointed C E O of Amalgamated Chemists in 1990. In 1993 he assisted in setting up the first manufacturer based distributor in South Africa, International Healthcare Distributors where he was Regional Executive for the Western and Eastern Cape. He joined Communicare as General Manager in 2001. He was appointed Managing Director on 28 March 2006.

A professional Civil Engineer who holds a Masters Degree in Engineering from Southern Illinois University, USA. His areas of key experience are Roads and Municipal Infrastructure. He is also a Director of a firm of consulting engineers that has offices in all the major centres of the country, as well as being a Director of Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company. He joined the Board of Communicare in 2000 and brings to it 25 years of technical expertise, as well as a wealth of low-cost housing infrastructure development experience from the Gauteng Department of Housing.

After matriculating from the Technical High School Oude Molen, Rick obtained his BSc Eng (Civil) from UCT and his MBA (Cum Laude) from the University of Stellenbosch. As a professional engineer, his key areas of experience are railway engineering, municipal infrastructure, housing and property development projects as well as asset maintenance. He started his career with the SA Railways and Harbours and joined Communicare in 1988. He then worked for the local authorities in Cape Town for twelve years doing engineering infrastructure and low cost housing development management before rejoining Communicare in 2005 as Property Executive. He was appointed a Director in February 2010.

After completing his B Admin (Honours) degree, Joel worked for Wooltru as a Retail Trainee Manager. In 1988 he joined Ikapa Town Council as a Senior Administrative Officer and later became Town Secretary responsible for Corporate Administration, HR, Finance, Committee and Secretarial Services, Safety and Community Services, Engineering, Planning, Building and Housing Services. When Ikapa and the City of Cape Town local authorities amalgamated post 1994, he was transferred to the new City of Cape Town Metropolitan authority and appointed as Manager: New Housing and later to acting Director of Housing. His key responsibilities were strategic and operational co ordination as well as accountability of housing programmes and related services. Later he was given the management responsibility of extending property management and operational coordination of the City’s overall affordable housing units. During 2005 he joined Communicare in his current capacity as Social Housing & Community Development Executive. He was appointed a Director in February 2010. Joel is also Chairperson and President of the National Association of Social Housing Organizations (NASHO), serves in various National Housing Task Teams dealing with strategies and programmes at national and provincial levels and is a Board member of Light For Africa – an organization that provides development conduits for budding artists in the craft market.

A Chartered Accountant, André obtained his B. Compt and B. Compt (Hons) from the University of South Africa. In 1993 he joined Deloitte & Touche to serve his articles of clerkship. He qualified as a Charted Accountant in 1996. He has ten years pre-articles hands on management experience as well as twelve years post qualifying financial management experience across a number of industries. He joined Communicare on 1 July 2008 as Financial Executive. He was appointed a Director in February 2010.
